60 Minutes with the Canon C300

source:shooteditlearn.com

I was at InFocus last week and Canon was kind enough to let us take out the C300 for an hour and shoot around South Charleston, SC.

I wanted to see how the camera felt on the Glidecam 4000HD handheld with various lenses. We used Canon L – 14mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm.

We also used the Kessler Stealth slider with the Manfrotto 755CX3 tripod and 701 head. This is a super small setup, it’s nice to know you can still use such a big camera on it. At one point we had the 300mm on this setup.

I did some light coloring on the edit with FCP and Magic bullet, but not much.

The last two shots were at the highest ISOs, one at 4000, and the other at 12,400. On the final glidecam shot we were on the 85mm and at f5.6 so I would have enough focal plane to keep the actor in focus. It’s pretty awesome this was lit with the street light and stopped down to 5.6 and still doesn’t have too much grain.

Sony 11-16mm T3 PL and 18-252mm Sony F3 Lens Review

This is a lens review of the new Sony 11-16mm T3 PL zoom and Sony 18-252mm zoom lenses.

This was all done in 3 hours yesterday afternoon in Tokyo. I was lucky enough to get Sony Japan (through System 5) to lend me these lenses to test. I do not have any commercial arrangement with Sony or System 5 and nor do I receive any of these products for free. If I want them I have to buy them like everyone else.

I’m not normally in front of the camera so please excuse the rambling and mistakes that are made.

This is more of a review than a test. There are no charts, just me using the lenses for a few hours to get a general feel for them and to help me evaluate what I liked and didn’t like about them.

So far there has been absolutely ZERO specs about the video capability of this new camera. There is a dedicated video record button which is good. However I am not holding my breath for 1080 24p. Just going to have to wait until the Panasonic GH3 for a new m43 camera with solid video features.

Canon 7D MKII or 5D MKIII Photos?? (leak/rumor)

source: http://blog.apertureacademy.com

It looks like pictures of a possible Canon 5D MKIII or 7D MKII have surfaced on the web. This is probably THE most substantive rumor/leak regarding either of these cameras to date. Something tells me that this feels like a new 7D. I have nothing to back that up but my hunch says 7D. Either way I just hope they put a freakin’ headphone jack in the new 7D and 5D. Also would love to see a 1080p video crop function put into both new models.

Olympus OM-D Mirrorless “retro slr” FEB 5th

source:M43 rumors

M43 rumors is reporting that the new Olympus mirrorless will be called the Olympus OM-D. It will be a retro styled mirrorless camera that will resemble the OM film cameras of old. Hopefully Olympus figures out what 24p is and sticks it in this new camera. This could really give the upcoming Panasonic GH3 a run for its money. The real question is will Panasonic drop the boring industrial design with their new cameras like Fuji and Olympus have?
