ROLLING SHUTTER: 36 Hours in the Making of The Year of the Dragon

Jonah Kessel has posted a behind the scenes video of his fantastic piece for the New York Times shot on Canon DSLRs. Check out his write up here for more details about the shoot.

What happens when five filmmakers and friends get together to make a short video? Well, you come out with some extra footage.

This clip shows the 36 hour process (in 2 minutes and 40 seconds) it took Paul Morris, Kit Gillet, Jim Fields, Keith Bedford and myself to create “2012: The Year of the Dragon” for the New York Times.

Canon 7D MKII or 5D MKIII Photos?? (leak/rumor)

It looks like pictures of a possible Canon 5D MKIII or 7D MKII have surfaced on the web. This is probably THE most substantive rumor/leak regarding either of these cameras to date. Something tells me that this feels like a new 7D. I have nothing to back that up but my hunch says 7D. Either way I just hope they put a freakin’ headphone jack in the new 7D and 5D. Also would love to see a 1080p video crop function put into both new models.

Dan Chung of DSLR NEWS SHOOTER takes a look at the New Canon EOS-1D X.

I’ve been at the Canon Pro Solutions show in London this week and was lucky enough to get a full run through of the video features of the Canon EOS-1D X from Mike Burnhill. I was allowed to shoot with the camera but sadly I could not take the video away. For me one of the great things is that the camera works with many of the existing 5D mkII accessories as you can see in the video. Sadly the camera is not available until March 2012.

Sony A77 DSLR/VSLR (Rumor:Coming Soon) August 24th

On August 24 Sony will make an amazing announcement. There is no doubt! And one of the thing you will like most is the new video features! I just learned from my sources that the new A77, Nex-7 and VG20 will support the new AVCHD 2.0 standard. This means that all those camera (!) will be able to record FullHD videos in 1080 60/50/25/24p at 28Mbit/s! Do you like that? Wait…there is even more! All camera will support full manual controls while recording video. And you can shoot video in P or A or S or M mode! All three cameras were development having video recording in mind. That means that the new sensor and the new BIOZ processor have been optimized to avoid artifacts like the weird jello effect. And as I already told you the new 3 million dot OLED viewfinder will have a high refresh rate! Can’t wait to see the first video samples

Check Phil Bloom’s take on the camera here.
