Olympus M. Zuiko 45mm f/1.8 Review

Matthew Duclos of Duclos Lenses has posted a review of the Olympus M. Zuiko 45mm F1.8 lens. Check it out here.

Chromatic aberrations are present but well controlled. You can see some obvious purple fringing in some of the samples where I intentionally over-exposed the background on a dimmer foreground object. The fringing is a bit more controlled at mid-range apertures but increase a bit more at the smallest apertures. Sharpness is very good in the center with almost no falloff out to the edges. Same goes for light falloff and distortion, all well controlled. There is a minor flare when shooting wide open at f/1.8.

Inside a RED 18-85mm RED Zoom

Just finishing up an overhaul on a RED 18-85mm RED zoom. The zoom focus and iris all needed some new grease after some heavy shooting. This lens is built quite well using nothing but aluminum alloys and high quality hardware. A cam driven zoom converter and a helix based focus assembly join to make quite a nice optical-mechanical tool.

Leica Summilux-C Primes Evaluated

Matthew Duclos of Duclos Lenses has posted an article evaluating the new Leica Summilux-C lenses.

“Everyone likes comparisons so I feel obligated to give everyone an idea of how the Leicas stack up against other pro cine lenses. I would say, technically, optically, and mechanically, they beat the pants off of just about any other set of primes out there. …Except for the Zeiss Master Primes.”
