Leica Summilux-C Primes Evaluated

Matthew Duclos of Duclos Lenses has posted an article evaluating the new Leica Summilux-C lenses.

“Everyone likes comparisons so I feel obligated to give everyone an idea of how the Leicas stack up against other pro cine lenses. I would say, technically, optically, and mechanically, they beat the pants off of just about any other set of primes out there. …Except for the Zeiss Master Primes.”

Ricoh GXR M-mount Module Video Review

DigitalRev TV has posted a video review of the new GXR m mount module. Seems like it can handle wide angle m-mount lenses much better than the Sony Nex-5n. Only problem for me is that the Ricoh GXR doesn’t also shot 1080 24p video as well.

Leica Interview – 2011″optical finders will get less and less important”

There were a few great quotes from the megapixel interview with Leica.

The main quote being.

Q: Another mirrorless related question – one of the big issues when giving up the mirror is the move from optical to digital viewfinder. How important do you think optical viewfinder is for Leica users and when you look at the current crop of 1.4 MP viewfinders do you think they are good enough or do you really must have the quality of the new Sony 2.4 MP viewfinder? (Alternatively what do you think about the X100 hybrid viewfinder as an option?).

A: I think that the quality of the 1.4MP finders is already very good, and sometimes even more accurate than an optical finder, think of white balance or exposure. Over time, as technology is improving, optical finders will get less and less important. The X100 finder is a very nice concept and well executed.

Looks like more fuel for the fire of the evolution of the EVF.

Tokyo, Japan, August 5, 2011—Ricoh Co., Ltd. The body color will be black only, and the planned monthly production volume is 3,000 units.

Introduced in December 2009, the GXR is a revolutionary interchangeable unit camera system in which lenses can be changed by mounting camera units that integrate lens, image sensor, and image processing engine into a single unit. In addition, utilizing its unique ability to accommodate interchangeable units other than camera units, the system can be expanded to include a variety of other devices.

The new GXR MOUNT A12 is a lens mount unit made especially for the GXR. Featuring an APS-C size CMOS sensor and a newly developed focal plane shutter, this unit makes it possible to mount lenses such as Leica M lenses, and it provides various types of compensation and correction functions.
